If the objective of your vacation is to practice sports in nature, Puerto del Carmen offers you the ideal conditions for practicing them throughout the year.

sports tests

Throughout the year, Puerto del Carmen is the scene of different sports events that bring together great international athletes. Among them are the Ocean Lava, Sailfish Lanzarote Open Water and Ironman Lanzarote.

Ironman is the most important sporting event on the island due to the great participation of athletes and the hardness of its tests. More than 1,800 athletes between the ages of 18 and 75, from more than 40 nationalities, take the start to measure and demonstrate their strength and endurance.

For them, the day begins in the bay of Puerto del Carmen where they swim 3.8 km, then 180 km by bike, to end up running a marathon on the promenade of Puerto del Carmen under a scorching sun. All this in a maximum period of 17 hours to fulfill a dream: finish the Ironman Lanzarote.

Trekking

Walking is the best way to discover the more than 300 volcanic craters, lava fields and caves that dot the local landscape. You will find a lot of variation in the more than 20 paths of low and medium difficulty that cross the Famara massif (670m) or the lonely mountains of Los Ajaches.

You will also find it fascinating to see how plants, animals and people manage to adapt and create life in these harsh conditions. From Puerto del Carmen and Tías you can reach the La Geria area, where you will find signposted paths that will guide you through the wine-growing area. From here you can make excursions that will take you to discover the lunar landscape through the volcanoes national park and the origins of the volcanic eruptions of the 18th century.

The network of local trails in the municipality of Tías offers us a varied and spectacular landscape change along its route, going from walking along coastal paths to walking among ancient sand dunes to culminate our routes in a landscape of vineyards and volcanic lapilli. The ascent to some volcanic cones gives us a broad view of the island.

Bicycle

Lanzarote is the ideal island for cycling. In the north, center and south we find mountains that rise up to 670m. above sea level. In contrast, the coast is rather flat. Both amateurs and elite cyclists appreciate the good conditions of the roads and the low traffic density.

Those who prefer to avoid asphalt will also find a multitude of paths that will make them discover the island in depth. Through different routes you can circumnavigate the island, or cross it from north to south.

Golf

Lanzarote Golf Resort

The Golf Course is only 5 minutes from most hotels and beaches and 10 minutes from the airport. Its 18-hole course, par 72, was designed by the North American Ron Kirby. All its streets were adapted to the undulating terrain, thus preserving the traditional and idyllic landscape of Lanzarote. It offers golf classes and has a driving range, putting green, bunker and approach practice area, so you can perfect your swing.
