Jose Saramago House Museum

The municipality of Tías had the privilege of counting among its neighbors the Portuguese writer José Saramago (Azinhaga, 1922-Tías, 2010).

The Nobel Prize for Literature, a lover of the island, settled in Tías in 1993 where he spent the last 18 years of his life and wrote some of his most recognized works.

Knowing the library and the house made of books” where Saramago lived will allow you to enjoy one of the most exciting cultural experiences on the island.

The house-museum offers guided and audio-guided tours.

From Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Start time of the last visit).

The Ermita de San Antonio Art Gallery, located on the Central Avenue of Tías, has accommodated endless painting and sculpture exhibitions by local and foreign artists.

Open in the afternoon, the Hermitage of San Antonio, is today an open window to culture in the municipality of Tías.
