Practical information
Business hours
The commercial areas of Puerto del Carmen and the Biosfera Plaza shopping center maintain extensive business hours that include Saturdays and Sundays.
The Canary Islands are no longer a free port, but they offer excellent prices on cosmetics, perfumes and some electronic devices.
If you have a problem in an establishment, request the complaint sheet and go to the Tourist Office or the Consumer Information Office of the Cabildo de Lanzarote:
T: +34 928 803 367.
Local time
Remember to change the time on your watch and devices when you land. The Canary Islands follow Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), being one hour behind the Iberian Peninsula. In April and October, it is modified and becomes GMT+1.
water and electricity
Tap water comes from desalination plants and is drinkable, but its taste is not entirely pleasant. You can find a wide variety of packaged mineral spring waters.
Please note that the mains voltage is 220V, with a frequency of 50 Hz. You will not have problems with plugs of type C, E and L.
Recycling and clean points
The recycling system follows the basic codes: green (organic waste), blue (cardboard and paper), yellow (packaging and plastic) and igloo (glass). If your stay is long, you will need to recycle oil, batteries or household waste at the Clean Point (Tías-Puerto del Carmen road, in front of the Golf Course).
Hours: Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. at 6:00 p.m. Sundays and holidays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
